If you’ve been following along with Fresh Sends recently, you might’ve heard of Selfless Summer. Our initiative to encourage simple, approachable acts and mindsets to take the focus off our own wants and needs and to, instead, shift that focus onto others this season.
Becoming a more selfless person is probably an aspiration we all share, however, putting that into practice and making that a reality doesn’t always come super naturally. We realize it’s often easier to be selfless towards the people in our closest circle, the people we already know and love, and much more challenging to be selfless to people that we don’t know at all. But we challenge you this month to do just that, because one of the most beautiful parts of being selfless is stepping outside of your comfort zone to serve people who don’t know your name, may not return the favor, or even say thank you.
This month, The Get Together team has compiled a list of places and specific events where you can jump in and volunteer in six major cities across the US.
Austin:
Chicago:
Denver:
Los Angeles:
The U.S. Vets Homeless Feeding N Housing Services
Miami:
RESTORE HABITAT: Vizcaya Adventure
Ronald McDonald In-House Lunch
New York:
Volunteer for the Runyon 5K at Yankee Stadium
Stewardship Volunteering at East River Park
New York Cares Bingo with Seniors
We know going out and volunteering for a bunch of strangers can feel scary and intimidating. Don’t go it alone! This is The Get Together after all 😉. Grab your closest friends and trade out a happy hour (or just schedule your HH after) for an afternoon of serving your community, together. Here’s to a Selfless Summer!
